Exhibit 337 Part 2: Interview Room 1/29/2020
Being Detained
- Letecia is standing in front of the couch, her back is to the camera. It looks like she is taking pills or putting something in her mouth and swallowing it.
- She is shoving tissues down her pants. “I just accidentally peed a little” she says out loud. “Now my pants are wet.”
- She’s taking off her jacket. “It’s hot” she says out loud. She is rummaging through maybe her purse.
- She is stretching. I think it’s detective Bethel that comes back in; she says they are going to take her to the restroom. They will be in the room but she will be in a stall, she can’t wipe or flush the toilet so they can verify she didn’t wipe. They are worried about potential evidence.
- Bethel tells her to leave her things there because they’re going right back in there. Letecia kind of jokes that she acted like it wasn’t a secure area.
- She is put back in the room. “Can I go to sleep?” she says out loud.
- She does more stretching.
- She fluffed a pillow and lays down on the couch. Her jacket is over her like a blanket.
- She gets back to a sitting position after a while and looks antsy. She says she is hot. She is stretching more. And more stretching; she burps or gags.
- She says something inaudible.
- She is pacing with her hands in her pockets; she stares at artwork on the wall.
- “I just need to stretch” she says out loud. She yawns. “Is there anything I can read or do?”
- More pacing.
- She is saying she wants something to read. She is kind of quietly muttering. She puts her jacket back on.
Chest Pains / Panic Attack
- She is saying she has really bad chest pains “like right here”. They tell her to sit down and they can call for help.
- She says “I have really bad chest pains”. She says she can’t breathe because it’s a tight enclosed space. He tells her again to sit down on the couch and tries to close the door. She says she can’t breathe and wants the door open.
- They have to call her an ambulance. She just wants the door open. “You’re being detained and the door helps that”.
- She says she already told them before she has bad anxiety and takes Lorazepam. He says she didn’t have claustrophobia until - she interrupts and says she takes Lorazepam every day and if she doesn’t take it she can have a panic attack. He is misquoting what he heard, sir. It’s ridiculous.
- Bethel comes in and asks about her chest pain and her Lorazepam use. Letecia says she wants the door open. She is mad at the man. She does not have her Lorazepam with her.
- She doesn’t want to see a medical professional, she was just having chest pains because the door was closed.
- She is having a panic attack not a medical emergency.
- She hasn’t taken her Lorazepam yesterday or today.
- She has had generalized anxiety since she was 16.
- She is angry at the male detective for making accusations.
- Letecia says he was very unprofessional. He says he said he was calling for medical. She says that’s not what he did, he started making up reasons. Bethel asks if she would like medical attention and she says yes
- She just wants the door open.
- Bethel says they will have someone come check her out, asks if she has any other medical conditions. Letecia says she is just hungry and tired. Bethel mentions the Hot Pocket and asks if she wants something else they have and even offers to order something. “Obviously I’m not gonna buy lobster but what would you like to eat?”
- Letecia asks first for help with anxiety medicine but they don’t have any there. EMTs will come but they won’t dispense medication. If you have a prescription maybe your husband can bring it and you can self-administer what you’re prescribed.
- She just wanted the door open. It’s open now.
- She’s upset the man was rude. Bethel says maybe you two just don’t click. Letecia says clearly she isn’t going anywhere just open the door that’s all she asked. Says she appreciates Bethel for opening the door and not being rude.
- Bethel asks if anyone is at home that can bring her medication. Letecia says it’s not at her house probably because it’s in her book bag and she could call someone but they took her phone. Bethel offers to get a number out of her home if she wants to give the password. Letecia says she already gave the passcode it’s the same code for the alarm.
- Bethel says she doesn’t know the code and if Letecia wants to call her friend she can get her the number Letecia says by the time her friend gets here the medical people could have already come. Bethel clarifies they can’t dispense medication.
- Letecia: So I’m having chest pains and you’re just telling me I can’t do nothing?
- Bethel: No, not at all. She explains an EMT won’t give medication. She wants her to be able to get her prescribed medication.
- Letecia: Because I haven’t taken it (inaudible).
- Paramedics are in the lobby.
- Bethel asks if she uses any grounding techniques with her anxiety like thinking of a favorite vacations she’s been on. Letecia says it’s probably Aruba. Bethel asks her what she did in Aruba. Letecia says she has to breathe.
- (inaudible) She asks where the EMTs are because she’s hurting “right here”. Bethel says she has been standing right here so she doesn’t have that answer. She also asks Letecia the last time she took Lorazepam. Letecia says “you can’t just not take it the day after you take it”.
- Bethel asks again. Letecia says she took it yesterday, and says she didn’t take it Tuesday or today (Wednesday).
- Bethel tries to ask about Aruba again. Letecia says she’s getting dizzy. Bethel tells her to lean back on the couch. Letecia lays down - I think she said the floating activity was her favorite.
- Letecia says: I don’t care about ya’ll taking my… evidence of … you’re gonna take it anyway and you can have it… but I really have chest pains. Bethel: “I believe you”.
- Letecia says something about her body and she works out a lot. Letecia asks if she can take a Tylenol. She says that helps sometimes.
- She is rummaging through her purse more and then lays back down with her purse on her chest. She asks if she can get something to read and says it might help. She says the man said she couldn’t have anything to read.
- Letecia says she can’t hardly breathe so she can’t answer Bethel’s questions. Bethel says she can take time to answer or just listen to her while she tries to calm her down.
- Letecia asks why it’s so hard to breathe in there and Bethel says the rooms get stuffy.
- They start talking about shoes. Bethel says something about the same pattern. Letecia says “2012 model”. Bethel says she has had her Nikes forever and they last.
- Bethel says sometimes if you lean forward it helps but Letecia says she tried that and can’t breathe. Letecia says with her diet changes and lifestyle(?) changes she can’t breathe and the man told her she couldn’t open the door.
- 3 or 4 EMTs arrive; she says she has a little bit of chest pain and can’t breathe and she just needed the door open. She takes Lorazepam so it could be anxiety related.
- Letecia says she’s had anxiety since she was 16. She takes off her jacket. She explains she takes Lorazepam as needed and she took it a few days in a row.
- Letecia says she has asthma but not diagnosed from a doctor. She takes no other medication every day other than Lorazepam. She takes something she doesn’t know what it’s called but it’s for sleeping. She has no allergies to medication.
- She isn’t answering her birth date and takes a minute to answer that she’s 35. They ask her date of birth and she says 35, she doesn't understand why they’re saying she’s not answering right. August 5th, 1983.
- She gives her name as Letecia.
- They ask her why she is anxious and she starts talking about her exercise routine.
- She says she has had drugs or alcohol today; says Tylenol.
- She says she feels really dizzy.
- Her vital signs are good. They tell her she’s getting enough oxygen and she needs to control her breathing. With anxiety if you start over-breathing you can develop chest pain.
- She says she’s having breathing problems.
- I think she says she’s cold.
- She grabs her purse; gets up, walks out of the room.
- Her oxygen saturation is 100%; they tell her to breathe in through her nose and out through her mouth.
