Nicole Mobley
She is a neighbor who lives in Lorson Ranch.
Meeting Letecia
- She met Letecia when she posted on the neighborhood page looking for clothes for her niece. Harley Hunt messaged her offering her free clothes but when she showed up to the Mobley home it was Letecia, not Harley.
- She was supposed to leave them on the porch but she knocked and they ended up having a conversation.
- The witness points out Letecia, the defendant, as the woman who delivered the clothing.
- She was put off at first because the name didn't match and it was sort of weird because they didn't know each other and she was talking as if they had been best friends; this was right before Christmas of 2019.
- Nothing else stood out other than Letecia being too open with her.
- Letecia wrote again saying she forgot to give her a pair of pants.
- On Christmas, she messaged and said she was going on a work training trip with an airline and asked if her niece wanted to help watch the house and hang out with her teenage daughter and help with the dogs. She said Harley didn't have many friends because she didn't go to school there.
Gannon’s Disappearance
- She saw that Gannon was missing in a post on one of those neighborhood pages.
- Prior to Gannon going missing, she only remembers Letecia talking about her daughter and weird things like her husband working nights in the army and was gone a lot.
- She also mentioned Laina going to Grand Mountain; she also talked to her about being frustrated in her home life. It was a little TMI and also it was supposed to be porch drop offs not chats.
- She helped searched for Gannon; it was freezing and dark.
- They searched near the school and other areas they figured an 11-year-old boy may go; they also searched vacant fields in the neighborhood.
- About 40 people were searching with drones, dogs, and vehicles - all volunteers, a very unorganized organized search based on the Facebook post they saw; the neighborhood coming together.
- Mobley did not stop by Letecia's house; it was very obvious she was there and not out searching with them. Lights were on and she would open the door. None of the people she encountered outside searching were her.
- It started snowing and some people began to stop searching.
- There was a lot of Facebook drama regarding Gannon's disappearance; she tried not to read it but did follow legitimate news.
- The night Gannon went missing, Mobley messaged Letecia on Facebook to try and figure out where they should be looking and Letecia blocked her immediately.
- Mobley participated in all neighborhood search parties.
- She recalls an interview Letecia gave with a news station. One thing that stood out to Mobley is that Letecia had her back to the camera; the news cast was mostly her worrying about what people thought of her; also Letecia spoke in past tense when she mentioned Gannon. This made Mobley even more curious about what happened to Gannon.
Going Undercover
- Mobley tried to reach out to Letecia via Facebook messenger on a different Facebook page that wasn't blocked - either Letecia Stauch or Tee Stauch - and did not get a response.
- Mobley made a fake Facebook page to see if she could get Letecia to respond to her, but knew she wouldn't on her original page. Based on the conversation they had on the porch when they met, Mobley felt she could figure out how to get her to talk based on what she had wanted to talk about. Letecia did reply to this fake account.
- The fake account wrote Letecia with a combination of agreeing with her on things that involved Landen and that she believed her about the shadow under the truck. This video is when Letecia returns home on the afternoon of January 27th, 2020 where you see a leg drop on the opposite side of the truck. Letecia says that was Gannon's leg.
- They eventually began texting on an app to talk more privately on February 19th 2020.
- Mobley went to the police office and told them about the texts; they took her phone for a while to analyze it.
Exhibit 233: Text messages from Feb 19th 2020.
- Some of the text messages were between Mobley and Harley.
- There are also texts from Mobley to her husband.
- When talking to Letecia, Mobley felt she would be able to get her to talk.
- Letecia had her name as “Barbie Girl”.
- She said things like she didn't hurt her son and she wanted to know she could trust the fake account.
- Mobley felt that she could work hard to gain her trust and get her to tell her something; Mobley said she has been pointing out the shadow on all of the pages.
- A lot of people were saying it wasn't a shadow or a leg; some people thought Gannon came home, some people didn't.
- Mobley could only think of going along with things and if she was on her side for the shadow she could gain her trust.
- Letecia says she needs help and can help her in return; she says it's not bad. Mobley says it's ok, Letecia says she wants her to tell the truth.
- Letecia said:
- Letecia said:
- Mobley says she didn't believe it. She was waiting for a story to come; this was the first she had heard of anyone else being in the house or of Letecia blacking out.
- Previously, Mobley hoped he was just missing but fom the first night she had a bad feeling.
- Letecia said:
- Mobley asks who the guy was. Letecia replies:
- This is the first time Mobley had heard of a suitcase.
- Mobley tells Letecia she knows she is innocent and the cops do too and that's why they're being quiet; she wanted her to keep talking.
- Letecia says:
- Mobley never saw a suitcase during any of her searches or anyone carrying a large suitcase; people in the neighborhood have cameras and even post solar salesmen on the neighborhood page.
- Mobley asks if Letecia thinks Landen sent this guy.
- Letecia replies:
- Mobley had only met any of the family once for a short amount of time; she played with Laina at an event.
- A church in the neighborhood was involved in the search effort.
- Mobley knew Letecia didn't like Landen because it was made very clear on social media; she felt siding with her by suspecting Landen would draw her in more.
- Mobley suggests that Landen sent someone to get both kids.
- Letecia suggests when she went to the bathroom the man came in through the garage or from the gate; maybe Gannon knew him and that's why he kept checking the gate to make sure it was locked.
- Mobley asks:
- She had learned from the news that Letecia was against the detectives.
- Letecia replied:
- Mobley mentioned that she thinks Landen sent the man to get her kids back and something went wrong and now she is after the money for "her nasty habits." She also said "poor Gannon, I really hope he isn't being tortured."
- Letecia says:
- This was the first Mobley had heard about him being killed.
- Letecia said that by now Gannon was probably out of state.
- It was true. At this point in time, he actually was - his body was in Florida.
- Letecia said Gannon didn't act like he knew the man but the man said he was friends with uncle Matt but there is no uncle Matt.
- Mobley asked if there's anyone Landen knows named Matt that she says is like a brother.
- Letecia replies:
- Mobley asks:
- Letecia replies:
- She is talking about Laina
- Letecia said:
- Mobley felt thrown off because Letecia was contradicting herself. She had said Laina wasn't home but also said the man heard her at the door.
- She told Letecia to think of a way to help and said she can't just all of a sudden say she saw something else because she had already given a statement to the news.
- She also tells Letecia she can't imagine how she feels to go through this and to be accused.
- Letecia asks:
- Mobley explains that they put blue ribbons all over the school to raise awareness of Gannon's disappearance; "we turned the whole neighborhood blue for Gannon".
- Letecia says:
- Mobley says she went out every day for a week looking.
- Letecia says:
- Mobley asks:
- Letecia says she will have a heck of a lawsuit when this was all over. She says has already been asked by attorneys to be the first one she sees when her innocence prevails.
- She asks Mobley to keep their conversation private; she says she is innocent and Gannon is her son.
- Mobley felt she was going to open up more when Letecia said to keep their conversation quiet; she felt Letecia was asking her to lie for her.
- Mobley told Letecia about a man who hit on her during the search late at night in a field and she got in a truck with some ladies to get away from him; it made her uncomfortable (this really happened but the man had no suitcase and didn't have Gannon).
- Letecia says it could have been him. She said he was walking and Gannon took his cover.
- Mobley says:
- She starts crying and asks for a minute and then asks the prosecutor to read it. She said something about the man and wondering if he came back to search just to be close to the house.
- Letecia sent a photo of Gannon's bed and his blanket; she said this is the cover he left with and asks:
- Mobley says:
- Letecia says:
- Mobley didn't see any kids in the area or getting into any cars
- At 11:11 AM on February 19th, Letecia says:
- Mobley says:
- Mobley says:
- Letecia says:
- Mobley says:
- Letecia says:
- Mobley says:
- Mobley told Letecia she was going to be slow to reply because she's with her dad and he's nosey when she's on her phone and she wants what they talk about to be between them. She isn't even telling her husband.
- Letecia says:
- Mobley wants to make sure her post is up from the first night because it will help prove she was near her house at that time. She said Letecia doesn't need to give her anything she just wants to help find Gannon.
- By this time, Mobley is pretty sure she had already contacted law enforcement who put her in contact with an FBI agent to help guide her conversation with Letecia.
- Letecia says she is desperate to find Gannon and she needs help and wants to help her too.
- Mobley says:
- This was posted on a facebook page supporting Letecia's innocence.
- Letecia says when they call her back in she will take a polygraph test and a witness and they will refocus. The police can keep you anonymous to the public.
- At this time, investigators were searching in the Palmer Lake area.
- Letecia says:
- Mobley believed Letecia wanted Mobley to call Al and tell her she saw a man leaving the house with a suitcase and Gannon with a blanket and give a description of a man.
- Mobley tells Letecia she found the first post she had made about being near Letecia's house in the field.
- On January or February 27th, Mobley sent a message to Harley and was blocked.
- Mobley told her husband Letecia wanted her to lie and tell Al she saw a man leave in a car with Gannon.
- Mobley turned her phone over to investigators.
"if I had did this I couldn't have gone so far and they would've found him. They are focusing on me and wasting valuable time".
"someone was in the home when we got back. I gave this to police during my first interview but initially I thought he was just being defiant and going against his dad's wishes and leaving. I blacked out."
"I am beginning to think that the guy was still in the home when police came. Either way he popped back up with Gannon, so I assume they were in the storage room. He threatened me, so I put them girls upstairs to protect them".
“He took a suitcase and some of our things and Gannon's things and I was crying. Then he hit me across the head”.
“Someone had to see him leaving with a suitcase and G. I don't know if he was hurt when he did. I was scared. Someone has to be a witness to having seen this guy. Someone had to and is scared”.
“I will do anything I can to find this person.
“Do you think the detectives believe you but have to act the way they are so this guy doesn't know they are on to him?”
“Not sure I think they just don't have anything on Ring cameras. Someone had to see him leave. Any amount. Do whatever for them if they come forward. They need to start looking for the guy”.
“If I would have killed him, he would be close by. She would have come back and said we were bad parents by now”.
“I need a witness that the guy left. I'm not asking you. I'm asking if you know anyone who will. I will give them my life, a reward, whatever. Anything to get them to expand the search”.
“Did he ask where the little girl was or what did he say to you?”
“He said is that your daughter at the door but I sent her to the mailbox”.
“I'm losing my mind because they need to look for the description of the guy. They need to expand and put up alerts in states. My heart is breaking”.
“You were on the news?”
“Whatever they have they're going to need to pay be for defamation. I need my boy home”.
“That's when the guy left. He took a suitcase and made Gannon wrapped in his cover. He hit me in the head and then I don't know if they got in a car or what. When I woke up I was in a complete shock and I'm crazy that I think someone could have been there when I arrived. In my questioning they were like no way the police didn't know he was there. I mean heck, I didn't know”
“So they never even tried to look into any of what you said? WTF is wrong with law enforcement? They could have found him”.
“I will never repeat this conversation. I promise you, I believe you.”
“What if you just said you remembered something suspicious after seeing this description and you didn't say anything until now but you remember the kid had the same cover. I swear to you I didn't do this and I need help with getting this out there”.
“That's a possibility, do you remember what time it was?”
“After police left so maybe 1 or so. I didn't know he was still in the house when the police came. Some people were out searching he could have blended right in; she also mentioned all the cars in the area”.
“I wouldn't ask this if I didn't want to find our son. I'm cornered because of no Ring activity”.
“So he was in the house and making Gannon be quiet? That's sick and scary. Do you remember what he looked like so I can give details if I am asked?”
“I was in the field by your house from 12 - 2 and could see your house most of the time; now I need to think hard about this, now I'm wondering if I could've seen anything. It was freezing cold and we were exhausted but there were so many people out there”.
“Hispanic, 5'7 or 5'8, about 175 pounds. He has a tattoo or something in his face, maybe teardrop or something like that. He had on a jacket, I don't remember the color. But Gannon left with him in that cover so that stuck out with you when you saw it online. I'm sure he loaded the suitcase in the car and put Gannon in somehow”.
“I wish I could remember that night better like a car in front of your house or close. “
“At this point I just need the main info out there. I only ask because it's our child. They're looking in all the wrong places. Driving me crazy. Most people want to always help but I know this is tricky. If it's money or whatever name it. I want them searching the right way.”
“I want to help. Anything to find Gannon. My daughter knows him and this is destroying her and I feel broken now but I've been searching and doing what I can. I met Laina and that made me break down.”
“Ok I think that's best. Do you think you can do it? Let me know what you need. Gannon is who I want home. Then they can turn their searches the right way, then they can take me seriously. “
“You passed the polygraph so why don't they start listening to you? They're dumb. I know you passed ‘cause they posted you did.”
“Even if you just call Albert and tell him first. It's for the police.”
Cross examination
- All the info in the text messages were from a Wednesday from 10 AM to 11:48 AM.
- Defense asks if Mobley knew Letecia by the name Tee; Mobley says she doesn't know that she necessarily knew her by anything.
- The post she made was on a neighborhood page.
No redirect. Jurors have no questions.
Court is in recess until Monday at 9AM Mountain. There will be an hour of direct examination with the medical examiner on Monday.
Two options for the jury question about Letecia's behavior:
- Ignore it and don't answer.
- Tell jurors they only consider what is on the witness stand.
Judge decides he is not going to give them an answer at all.
