Prosecution: You arrived on scene around 10:30. Do you recall what time this photo was taken?
(Suburban; taken by Matt Riley)
Officer: I was contacted at 9pm on 24th & I arrived at 10pm.
Prosecution: Were you present while photos were taken?
Officer: Yes.
We eventually determined car should be impounded so it could be properly processed. We then had it towed back to police headquarters so it could be processed inside.
We couldn’t initially start the vehicle because it was left in reverse. It was not in park. I got in using gloves and backed it on to the truck. I was the only one to enter it to keep disturbance to a minimum.
Back at police headquarters I met at 69 Wells Lane & we conducted a preliminary walkthrough of the scene.
We began with houses on wells lane, any houses with exterior cameras that could have picked up activity the previous day.
Prosecution: Why were you interested in 54 wells on?
Officer We noticed there were cameras facing the exterior. We noted at that time that it had the street view. We made contact with the owner & asked if we could review the footage. The owner was incredibly cooapertuvd & gave us access to the unit. We could not initially access it. We eventually did so using the owners mobile phone to review video from that day.
We targeted a morning section and witnessed Jennifer Dulos’ vehicle leaving in the morning, returning
8am - Noon. That’s when we noticed her vehicle approaching & then leaving again.
Judge: The time is approx 1. We will break here for lunch. We’ll resume at 2:00.
Everyone returns to court. Initially all sound is muted.
Judge: Council stipulates to presence of all of the jurors?
Both: Yes.
Prosecution: Good afternoon Frederic Ramano. I think we left off before the break on a line of questioning about 54 Wells. Do you recall that line of questioning?
Ramano: Yes.
Prosecution: You testified about obtaining video surveillance from that residence. How many camera angles?
Ramano: Camera 3 & Camera 7. Camera 7 front of the house, in front of residence.
Prosecution: I’m going to ask you to direct your attention to the States Ev 3. BTW Sir on Camera 3, How many hours did New Canaan police download?
Ramano: 24 hours.
Prosecution: 7.58 hours - relevant - State’s 3 - Sir if you would explain what’s on the screen:
Ramano: The camera is on the garage 54 Wells looking south. It gets the driveway. At the very top, this is where wells lane passes. The numbers are the date and time stamp.
ProsecutionWas the time stamp accurate?
Ramano: Yes, it was.
Prosecution: How did you identify this as the vehicle?
Defence: Objection. The exhibit speaks to itself.
Judge: It does not speak to itself. There is more than 1 black chevy suburban. This has to do with how this officer determined which chevy suburban this was. Proceed.
Ramano: We had previously located Jennifer Dulos’ vehicle. So we knew exactly what it looked like. When we found this video, it matched up with the vehicle we ha previously impounded.
The wheels matched up on it and there are also stickers on both rear quarter panels. Both passenger and driver side and both of those matched up with the vehicle we impounded. The car exited from the same vicinity on camera 3 which is pointing towards her driveway. The car came back at approx 8.05 am.
Prosecution: And same question, how did you identify
Ramano: The vehicle again matched… (basically same answer as above. He also gets up and points out the stickers when requested.)
Prosecution: Did you see that vehicle at another time?
Ramano: Yes. At 10:25am. On both cameras. Time stamp, 10:25:06.
(Prosecution Asks about camera 7 seen previously, timestamps, it is correct as noted above.)
Prosecution: How did you know if was evidentiary value?
Ramano: We… we were looking for any video of vehicle movement - of Jennifer’s vehicle moving. The fact that it was leaving the residence again was of interest to us.
Prosecution: Did you see anything-see that vehicle moving on those cameras again?
Ramano: No we did not.
Prosecution: Thank you. No further questions.
