Case File: Sandra Birchmore

23-year-old Sandra Marie Birchmore was found dead in her Canton, Massachusetts apartment on February 4th 2021. Her death was initially ruled a suicide but the case was complicated by the fact that three former police officers had inappropriate sexual relationships with her, starting when she was a teenager in the Stoughton Police Department's youth Explorer program.

One of those former officers, Matthew Farwell, has been federally indicted for Sandra’s murder. At the time of her death, Sandra was three months pregnant and had told multiple friends that Farwell was the father. Investigators believe that he strangled her in her apartment on February 1st and staged the scene to make it appear that she had taken her own life. Farwell was arrested on August 28th 2024.
