Case File: Jorge Torres Jr.
On February 23rd or 24th, 2020, 42 year old Jorge Torres, Jr. suffocated to death after his girlfriend, Sarah Boone, zipped him in to a suitcase in their apartment in Winter Park, Florida before she went upstairs and fell asleep.
Sarah Boone placed a 911 call on February 24th and informed dispatch her boyfriend was dead and “beyond help.”
During a police interview, she told investigators she and Jorge had a bottle of wine and decided to play hide and seek. She alleged they both thought it would be funny for him to get in to the suitcase. She then went upstairs and fell asleep. Forensic investigators searched Sarah’s mobile phone (with her permission) and quickly discovered two videos from the night before
The videos show Sarah laughing and mocking Jorge and screaming obscenities as he repeatedly tells her he can’t breathe and he needs help. She doesn’t recall recording the videos.
Due to the withdrawal of 8 separate attorneys, a judge ruled that she forfeited her right to court-appointed counsel. She was expected to represent herself until attorney James Owens agreed to take her case and represented her at trial. Despite proper legal representation, a jury of six found her guilty of the second-degree murder of Jorge Torres, Jr.
Sarah Boone is being held in the Orange County Jail in central Florida until her sentencing on December 2nd, 2024.
